The COVID-19 pandemic has changed education forever. COVID-19 has resulted in schools shut all across the world. Globally, over 1.2 billion children are out of the classroom. As a result, impart of educational format has changed dramatically, with the distinctive rise of e-learning, whereby teaching is undertaken remotely and on digital platforms. For those who do have access to the right technology, there is evidence that learning online can be more effective in a number of ways. Some research shows that on average, students retain 25-60% more material when learning online compared to only 8-10% in a classroom.
Keeping the above in mind and the challenges faced by many students in our country and city, where there are many deserving students from underprivileged and needy families who have no access to the infrastructure required for e-learning, however these children are talented and have the desire to learn but are unable due to financial constraints of their family. IHA Foundation and Rotary Club of Calcutta have joined hands to embark on a mission to facilitate education to these underpiviledged and needy children through their initiative of “Shiksha Hobe“ – Shiksha Ghar – E-Learning Centre.
“In a country like India there are, however many challenges to overcome. There are many deserving students without any access to proper technology for e-learning and who struggle to participate in digital learning I believe that the integration of information technology in education will be further accelerated and that online education will eventually become an integral component of education. Our mission is to provide education to more and more underprivileged and needy children through our E-Learning Centres all across the State.,”, said Satnam Singh Ahluwalia, Chairman IHA Foundation.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a new layer of challenges to inclusive education. The low and lower-middle income families have been disadvantaged during temporary school shutdown. Social, income and digital divides have put the most disadvantaged at risk of learning losses and dropping out. Lessons from the past have shown that health crises can leave many behind, in particular the poorest girls, many of whom may never return to school. Therefore in partnership with IHA Foundation we have decided to launch E-learning centres across the State.”, said Sujata Pyne, President Rotary Club of Calcutta.
