While there are celebrations of the 75th Indian Independence in various ways being organized locally, regionally and in our homes. IHA Foundation took upon itself to celebrate the momentous occasion of 75 years of Indian Independence under the able leadership of its Chairman Satnam Singh Ahluwalia, by initiating a special drive and set forth a target of serving 75,000 meals in 75 days culminating on 15th August,2022 through their initiative of “Bhookh se Azaadi” – Freedom from Hunger. We are pleased to state that this target of 75,000 meals has been already been achieved by IHA Foundation, just before the Independence Day.
This initiative – “Bhook Se Azaadi” – Freedom from Hunger came from the idea that we observed that even after 75 years of Indian Independence though people were talking about freedom of expression and speech, one of the most basic needs of humanity were being deprived to many of our brothers and sisters – the need for nourishment through food.
IHA Foundation under the guidance of its Chairman Satnam Singh Ahluwalia had already been moving forward in their mission for Zero Hunger – Langar on wheels so it became symbolic for us to contribute towards making India – free from Hunger - Bhookh Se Azaadi to eradicate Hunger and to put an end to malnutrition.
Along with serving food to more than 75,000 meals to the underprivileged and needy, IHA Foundation also distributed essential ration to more than 7500 families, senior citizen, single parent, widow etc and served 750 children residing on the streets of the city Milk, Fruits and Sweets to bring an awareness to the issue of malnutrition prevalent today in fact one of the Agenda for Sustainable Development of the United Nations for 2030 is the Zero Hunger Challenge to end hunger, eliminate all forms of malnutrition, and build inclusive and sustainable food systems.
It is also a stark reality that even after 75 years we still have been facing this issue of Malnutrition and Hunger. India is ranked at 101st position out of a total of 116 countries, where hunger has been identified as a very serious concern . It is time that each and every citizen of this country should arise, as we had once did to attain the Freedom of our Nation 75 years ago, we all need to own this responsibility and pledge to ensure that no child is deprived of apt nutrition, no mother has to sacrifice her nutrition in order to feed her children and no person should be left to die of Hunger.
“We believe that if each and every one of us become aware of our surroundings and ensure that the persons near our homes, offices etc are looked after their food and nutrition is apt, and they are made self sustainable then we believe that our Nation can become free from Hunger and we truly can achieve – Bhookh se Azaadi. We also would like to inform that if anyone is aware of someone who is not able to nutrify themselves they can inform us and our volunteers will reach them.”, said Satnam Singh Ahluwalia, Chairman IHA Foundation.
