Kolkata’s IHA Foundation Warming Hearts Amid Winter's Chill
As the clock struck midnight on December 31, 2024, while the streets of Kolkata echoed with
cheers, fireworks, and celebrations, another story was quietly unfolding—a story of selfless
service and compassion. Amidst the revelry, Satnam Singh Ahluwalia, Chairman of IHA
Foundation, rallied his dedicated team of volunteers, not for merriment, but for a mission of
warmth and humanity. While the city celebrated new beginnings, they ventured into the cold,
determined to bring solace to those who had little reason to rejoice.
This winter, IHA Foundation launched an initiative that stands as a beacon of hope for the
underprivileged braving the biting cold of Kolkata and its suburbs. Starting December 18, 2024,
the Foundation’s volunteers embarked on a long mission to deliver warmth and dignity to the
city’s most vulnerable.
Armed with blankets, shawls, woolen clothes, and other winter essentials, the volunteers
ventured into the streets, seeking out elderly individuals, men, women, and children shivering
in the biting cold. Many of these souls clung to makeshift coverings soaked by the winter dew.
The outreach went beyond the streets, in railway stations, bus stands, outside hospitals, and
further extending to shelter homes in secluded corners of the city, places often overlooked but
equally deserving of care.
Led by the unwavering compassion of Satnam Singh Ahluwalia, Chairman of IHA Foundation,
this initiative illuminated lives in profound ways. Satnam Ahluwalia, personally leading and
involved in identifying shelters and individuals in need, ensured that no corner of the city was
left untouched by the spirit of giving. His dedication exemplifies the power of collective
humanity, where no act of kindness is too small, and every effort counts.
The initiative of IHA Foundation which started in the year 2000 has upheld this tradition of
Winter Sewa has completed 24 years and entered into it’s 25th year . What began with the
distribution of 150 blankets in its first year has grown into a transformative movement. Last
year alone, 8,156 blankets and shawls were distributed, a testament to IHA Foundation's
steadfast commitment. This winter, the numbers continue to rise, with 3,109 souls already
embraced by the warmth of IHA's care—and the mission is far from over.
"In the tapestry of giving, the act of distributing blankets becomes a poignant thread that binds
us to the shared warmth of humanity," shares Satnam Singh Ahluwalia, Chairman of IHA
Foundation. "With each blanket, we weave a cocoon of comfort, fostering not just physical
warmth but a profound sense of belonging and hope. Together, we can create a winter where
no soul is left out in the cold."
Satnam Singh Ahluwalia, Chairman IHA Foundation further said, “IHA Foundation’s winter
outreach isn’t just about charity—it’s a movement of solidarity, a testament to what can be
achieved when hearts come together. This initiative transforms winter into a season of shared
compassion, where the true spirit of the festive season isn’t just celebrated but lived, one act of
kindness at a time.”
