Cyclone Yaas caused massive damages in Bengal, directly moving in the path of tens of millions as it made its way towards the Bengal coastline. There are reports of widespread destruction from heavy rain, powerful winds and storm surges in low-lying areas of South 24 Parganas. Millions of people have been displaced due to the impact of the Cyclone.
Across the Bengal coastline, the scale of devastation was hugely evident. Reports of hutments washed away, roads broken, river and seabeds eroded and hundreds of village still under water, with some persons still untraceable. IHA Foundation immediately dispatched his team of volunteers to Sunderbans with relief material like tarpaulin, ropes, clothes, dry ration like muri, gur, chanachur, chira etc along with Ration kits consisting of rice, dal, oil, atta, tea, milk powder etc.
In this hour of crisis, we need to scale up our efforts. Support the people of Sunderbans through our relief initiatives and help and support the people to bring their lives back to normal.
Our volunteers have been instructed to be stationed at Sunderbans and will monitor the relief work continuously, our other teams will move to and fro bringing in more relief material and other essential items. Our first priority is to ensure that all the families who have been affected is provide adequate food and ration to sustain themselves, thereafter we shall move towards rehabilitation of the families and rebuild their homes.
We have our team of volunteers working in at Amlamethi, Marhurakhanda and Satya Narayanpur, Gosaba block Sunderbans.
