KOLKATA RESPONSE GROUP & IHA FOUNDATION STANDS BY THE CITY DURING THIS CRISIS

Cyclone “YAAS” had made its landfall in Orissa and crossed the northern Odisha coast near Balasore. Kolkata this time was saved from the brunt of the cyclone, however their were certain areas where the falling of trees had caused destruction of some houses and people on the streets were affected by the incessant rainfall and heavy winds. IHA Foundation under the guidance of its Chairman Satnam Singh Ahluwalia had two Quick Response Teams (QRTs) who were patrolling the streets and were receiving inputs from the 24 hour control room which had been commissioned at KRG HQ, which was being manned by trained staff to assist and provide support to the people in this hour of need.

The special squad of IHA Foundation volunteers patrolled the streets of the city along with dry ration tarpaulins, ropes, water, and Dry Food items like Biscuits, Muri, Gur, Chanachur, Chira, Water and other Essential items and distributed them to the people whose houses were destroyed by fallen trees and slum dwellers, kacha bustees residents, pavement dwellers and other daily wage earners are the ones who shall be the most affected in the city with the impact of the cyclone. The “Langar on Wheels” initiative was also continuing to serve cooked food to the people near hospitals, railway stations, daily wage workers and the needy and underprivileged during these trying times.

We were prepared and our special squads were fully equipped to handle this Cyclone crisis, we are grateful that no major loss happened to the city or any of the residents. We had pledged to ensure that no one sleeps hungry in Kolkata and we continued to keep this pledge even during these trying times. We shall continue to standby the citizens of the city during any catastrophe whatsoever.
